Students who are looking for a stable, easy to get into, intellectually stimulating, and well-paying job should look into accounting. Accounting is the process of recording, reporting, and analyzing finances and financial transactions. Many schools in Ohio offer accounting degrees at all levels, from certificate to Master’s degree. At all of the schools in Ohio, accounting falls under a business degree. Therefore, students will take courses in business, marketing, and finance before the accounting classes. Undergraduate degree requirements vary by school, but most also require science, math, English composition, and social sciences for all students.

Those who wish to move beyond the undergraduate degree in accounting can pursue the Certified Public Accountant credential, also known as the CPA. The Ohio CPA credential requires a specific minimum level of education, experience, and CPA examination scores. Exam applicants are required to have at least 150 semester credit hours of college education, of which 30 must be in accounting. Another alternative is to have the 30 credit hours in accounting and score at least a 620 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). One to four years of accounting work experience is required for applicants.
